Hundreds of students are currently involved in the programme started by the Peradeniya University to identify and provide support to students suffering from mental stress.
This was revealed during the investigations conducted after the disappearance of a student of the university.
The missing male student was found receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital.
Earlier the university administration had lodged a complaint with the Peradeniya Police that a student studying in the fourth year of the Arts Faculty of Peradeniya University had gone missing.
The 24-year-old student is a resident of Walapane.
Police said that the student had left the hostel saying he was going to his uncle’s house.
However, Police said there is still no information on how the student came to the hospital or who had admitted him.
Police said that during investigations, it was revealed that the student had suffered from depression and has received treatment for that condition.
Police investigations also revealed that there was a recent breakup of a relationship with a girl and the student was suffering from severe mental stress due to that as well.
