Cash, jewellery worth Rs. 577,000 robbed from Estate Superintendent’s house

A robber who broke into a room of a house belonging to a Estate Superintendent at Karadana in the Yatipavwa area of Ratnapura sexually abused a woman and stole money and gold jewellery worth Rs.577,000 and fled.

This incident took place on Poson Poya Day (03), Kiriella Police said.

Police said that the woman’s mother and brother also live in the house. However, on Poson Poya day, the mother had gone to observe ‘Sil’ and she spent that night in the temple while the brother who is a bus owner had gone on a hire.

Police suspect that the person who broke into the house was well aware that the wife of the Estate Superintendent and their 8-year-old child were alone at home when this incident happened.

The 39-year-old wife told the Police said that the intruder entered the house by breaking a window. he held a a knife to her neck and robbed her of a gold necklace worth Rs. 135,000 and sexually assaulted her.

After he fled, she said that she found out that Rs. 52,000 and some other gold items were also stolen from the cupboard.
