CBSL appoints new Deputy Governors

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) announced the appointment of J P R Karunaratne and A A M Thassim as new Deputy Governors. Karunaratne, with over 33 years at CBSL, has served in various capacities including the Director of Supervision of Non-Bank Financial Institutions and Superintendent of Currency. His extensive experience spans financial institution regulation, currency management, and public debt. Thassim, with 31 years at CBSL, has held key positions such as Director of Bank Supervision and Director of International Operations. He has played a significant role in implementing Basel III guidelines and strengthening the financial sector’s resilience. Their appointments took effect on June 20 and June 24, 2024, respectively.
