CGJTA appreciates Govt. efforts to solve industry issues
The Chinafort Gem & Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA), Beruwela the largest membership body for the industry with over 2,200 members, expresses its gratitude to President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Government for positively engaging with the industry to resolve critical issues.
Following the proposals of CGJTA to the Presidential Senior Adviser on Economic Affairs, Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, it was emphasized that the solutions proposed to streamline the importation of gemstones are already being taken into the process of legislation. Almost all gemstones imported into the country are processed and re-exported, creating opportunities for high-skilled employment as well as increasing foreign exchange revenue.
The CGJTA also expresses its gratitude to the Government for positively considering the proposals regarding improving foreign exchange earnings through the sales of gems and jewellery to tourists visiting Sri Lanka. President Wickremesinghe, reassured the CGJTA Chairman Marjan Faleel (M.P) and Executive Committee members that the proposals to further develop the industry will be gradually implemented, during a meeting held on 21, May at the Presidential Secretariat.
The CGJTA also expresses its gratitude to Ministers Dr. Bandula Gunawardane, Dr. Ramesh Pathirana and Chamara Sampath Dassanayake and Presidential Adviser, Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Chairman National Gem and Jewellery Authority Viraj De Silva, together with the officials of Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Finance and other industry associations including the Lanka Gem Dealers and Miners Association (LGDMA) Ratnapura Sri Lankan Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA).
