Chain snatching PC caught by villagers

A Police Constable (PC) on a motorbike stole a gold chain from a woman at Kalutara Ethanmadala, was caught and beaten up by villagers. The Police Constable was handed over to the Kalutara North Police on May 18.

According to the Kalutara North Police, the constable, who works as a Police driver attached to the Badureliya Police Station committed the offence while travelling on a motorbike.

The Police Constable who had returned to his house in Waskaduwa on May 17 after reporting sick had committed this offence while travelling on his motorbike.

The villagers who were alerted by the woman’s screams caught the suspect who was fleeing with the stolen gold chain, assaulted and handed him over to a team of Police officers from the North Kalutara Police, who had been on mobile patrol.

Police believe the suspect to be a drug addict and hence could have committed the offence to buy drugs.
