Chairman of Sri Lanka – Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association appointed 

Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Upul Galappaththi was appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Lanka-Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association recently (12).

The meeting to elect the panel of officers related to the Ninth Parliament of the Sri Lanka – Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association was held at the Parliament under the chairmanship of the Speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena. The Myanmar Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hon. U. Han Thu participated as the chief guest, Deputy Speaker Hon. Ajith Rajapakse, Ministers, State Ministers, Members of Parliament and Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera were present at the occasion.

The Members of Parliament Hon. Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi, Hon. Hon. Gamini Waleboda and Hon. Karunadasa Kodithuwakku were appointed as Vice Presidents of the Friendship Association. State Minister Hon. Sisira Jayakodi was appointed as Secretary, Member of Parliament Hon. (Major) Sudarshana Denipitiya as Assistant Secretary, and Hon. Hon. Asanka Navarathna also appointed as the treasurer.

Addressing the occasion, the speaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena stated that there is a long relationship between Sri Lanka and Myanmar in the religious, cultural, and tourism sectors and the establishment of this Parliamentary friendship association would further strengthen that relationship between the two countries.

Addressing the meeting, Myanmar Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hon. U. Han Thu mentioned that there is an unbroken relationship between Sri Lanka and Myanmar and expressed his gratitude for the support that Sri Lanka provides to Myanmar both internationally and regionally.

Hon. (Dr.) Upul Galappaththi, Member of Parliament, the current Chairman of the Sri Lanka-Myanmar Parliamentary Friendship Association, who spoke at the event, expressed his gratitude for being elected as the Chairman of the Association. He also stated that he is looking forward to working for the further development of bilateral relations between Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
