Chamari leads women’s cricket team
Sri Lankan women’s cricket team who emerged champions of the Commonwealth Games qualifying tournament held recently in Malaysia is expected to take part at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, which will take place from July 28 to August 8.
The women’s cricket Selection Committee selected the 15-member squad to take part in the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The team will be led by Chamari Atapattu while Inoka Ranaweera (leg spinner), Udeshika Kumari (right arm medium fast bowler), Oshadi Ranasinghe Sugandika Kumari, Nilakshi de Silva are the other senior players of the squad. However once again promising players like Harshitha Samarawickrama, Vishmi Gunartatne, Kavisha Dilhari are in good form and they have to perform well with seniors to get success in this event in Birmingham. Sri Lanka women’s team played with India recently at home while they lost to both T-20 and ODI series. Most of the time team is heavily dependent on Chamari Atapattu but now many young lasses are coming up with their talents said head coach Hashan Tillekartante.
Sri Lanka Women’s cricket team under Group ‘B’ will compete against England (July 30th), New Zealand (August 2nd), and South Africa (August 4th) in the first round of the ‘T20 competition’ of the games.
