The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has approved Chamika Karunaratne as a replacement for Dasun Shanaka in the Sri Lankan squad and it was confirmed by the Sri Lanka team manager Mahinda Halangoda.
Karunaratne who has played 23 ODIs, was named as a replacement after Shanaka was ruled out due to a right thigh muscle injury sustained during Sri Lanka’s match against Pakistan on October 10. The injury needs three weeks to recover according to medical official.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
Meanwhile Matheesha Pathirana who played last game against Pakistan also has shoulder injury which improved more after last game subjected to get medical confirmation from the medical officer in England. The report of Matheesha Pathirana already sent to England doctor and awaiting his responce Pathirana is being rested and Sri Lanka team management already plan to get Promod Madushan as a travelling reserve who will join the team within the next two days.
Dasun Shanaka had a level three injury and he should have rested at least three weeks and physiotherapist got the scan report and realized his condition and asked for a replacement from the Technical committee.
