He opens the batting and bowling for his Alma mater and his many attractive feats with the ball and bat during the past two inter schools cricket seasons earned him a spot to represent the Sri Lanka national Under 19 cricket team.

Chamindu is also tipped to captain the college cricket team in the upcoming 2021/22 season. He is a consistent run scorer with a good technique and a fast bowler who can disrupt top order batsmen. At present Chamindu represents SSC in the domestic club cricket season.

Speaking to Daily News all the way from Kandy, Chamindu said “I always loved to play cricket since I was small and I have enjoyed every bit of it. My Grandfather was the main reason why I entered the world of sports. He was a great football player during his days.

“My Grandfather is my biggest fan, he always supports me no matter what and also my parents and cousins are always cheering me up and they all are really supportive. Also there’s no specific reason that I got in to play this beautiful game of cricket. I used to watch cricket matches since I was small and I played cricket for my school since third grade, which made me love cricket”.

“Throughout my entire life always my family and Cricket has been everything to me and that will remain as my first priority”.

“When i scored a century in my first XI debut school match, also the day I got a chance to represent the Sri Lanka under 19 national team in Sri Lanka and I scored 112 runs in 58 balls, which was the fastest century in this year’s inter school limited over tournament against S Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia. Hence all these will always be in my memory right throughout my whole life as one of the most unforgettable incidents to date”.

“My favourite holiday destination will be Switzerland and England. I love the vibe in England and can’t wait to get back there once the Covid-19 situation settles down”.

“Being able to represent the Sri Lanka Under 19 national team is my biggest accomplishment so far. Honestly speaking to date, I really cherished that moment”.

“During my leisure time I love travelling , playing golf and watching movies. I am a big fan of Anne Marie and Wiz khalifa. I don’t have one particular favourite song right now, but I’m in love with Drake’s new album”. “With the current situation of Covid-19 pandemic, I do what I believe and I’m working hard for it”.

“Honestly speaking I don’t really compare myself to anyone because I always want to be the best version of myself”. “As a young boy I’m so grateful and thankful for everything I’ve achieved so far. And I’m working hard for my dreams and to be the best version of myself and to be the worlds best all-rounder one day”.

“My favorite Cricketers are Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer”.

“On a concluding note Chamindu said that he likes to describe himself as a Simple and humble person and what I am today is because of the people who encouraged me so I want to thank my mother and father and everyone else in my family who have supported me throughout this journey, Specially my first school coach Mahinda, Dimuthu Weerasinghe, Madhawa Mihiran (under 15 coaches in St. Anthony’s), Under 17 coach Susantha Basnayake, Under 19 coach Sampath Perera (2017 and 2018), my trainer Priyantha and coach Julian. Very specially I wanted to thank my dear coach Suneth Gunathilaka, because he’s the reason why I’m here today. I want to thank my school old boys, teachers, fathers, provincial coaches Imal Boteju, Amila Pinnaduuwa, Nilantha, Nuwan Samaranayake, Malcolm and Roland Perera, Panditharatne.
