Twenty two year old, Chamod Mahinsasa Yodhasinghe, one of the finest Athletes from Kegalle District had his primary education at Dorawaka Siriniwasa Maha Vidyalaya,Kegalle from Grade 1 upto Grade 10 and then joined St.Mary’s College,Kegalle and finished his education. Chamod started his Athletic career at his earlier School in the Under Eleven category under the coaching of Lalith Liyanage,a veteran Athletic Coach and went on to win short distance races at District and Provincial Level.
Gradually he started performing well to become an outstanding Athlete and in 2016 he secured the first place in Under 17 – 100 Metre Race with a New Record of 11.0 Secds. and became Second in 200 Metre race in 22.6 Secds., Second in Long Jump 6.72 Metres at the All Island School Meet. At the Junior National Meet he secured the Third place in 100 Metre Race in 11.39 secds. and first place in 200 Metre race in 22.63 secds. and in 2017 he came First in 100 Metre in 10.90 Secds.a new meet record and 200 Metres in 22.07 secds. also a new Meet record, Second in Long Jump 6.99 Metres.
In the same year he secured the First place in the Under 20 – 100 Metre race at the National Youth Festival and was placed Second in Under 18- 100 Metre Race, secured the Second place at the Junior national Meet in the 100 Metre race in 10.98 secds. In 2018 he continued his Winning spree to receive the Third place at the Junior National Meet in 100 Metres and became fifth in the South Asian Junior Championship in 100 Metre race. In 2018 his first Coach Lalith Liyanage was transferred so Chamod got a New Athletic Coach, Sanjeewa Weerakkody. a Level One Athletic Coach and in 2019 he secured the First place in 100 Metre race in 10.90 secds. at the Junior , John Tarbet meet in 10.90 secds. and became second in the same Event in 10.91 secds. at the National Sports Festival and Chamod was adjudged as the Best Long Jumper at the same meet Chamod was selected to the National Athletic Pool from 2019 and he is grateful to both his Athletic Coaches and his parents Kumara Yodhasinghe and Sunila Ganewatte for the encouragement given to him to improve his Athletics.
