Chapa Weeraratne, Old Rajan star sportsman
His team mates were E.K.R.Wijewardena of Dharmaraja College, Vice Captain of the hockey team, G. Wadood and M.Anaz both from Trinity College and M.R.Muniyandi of St.Sylvesters’ College to name a few. When Chapa was playing for the School Hockey team,they became runner-up at the Senior Nationals and lost in the finals to Mercantile Hockey XI.
He did well in studies too and after he obtained good results from the G.C.E.(A/L) he was selected to the University of Colombo in the year 1985 and he continued playing cricket and hockey at the University and captained the cricket and hockey teams. In cricket his highest score was 120 runs against BRC at the Donovan Andree Trophy tournament match. Chapa is still in the game of cricket representing Old Rajans at the Annual Sir Steell Olcot Memorial Cricket tournament between eight Buddhist schools of the country.
He passed out of the University after obtaining a second class upper division pass in B’Com and due to his father’s untimely death he had to take over the business, a shop situated in the Kandy town and at present he is helping his alma mater whenever it is needed and donating sports materials for the sportsmen of the school. He is doing his best for his employees during the Covid 19 epidemic period and he is attending to their needs to the best of his ability. His main intention is to help the up-and coming cricketers and hockey players of his alma mater and assist them in any way possible for them to become National players in any sport they are talented.
