Chathura kicks CR and FC to victory over Police

Dynamic fly half Chathura Seneviratne converted five penalties to help the CR and FC pull off an exciting 36-19 victory over Police SC in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament first-round match played at Longden Place yesterday.

Seneviratne produced a fine exhibition of place-kicking by firing across all five penalties in the second half after the home side had struggled earlier on where the scores were level 12-12 at half time.

CR and FC eventually managed to scrape through after going through some tough moments as they collected their points from three goals and five penalties while Police SC responded with one goal, three penalties and one drop goal.

Ashan Darling and Ruchira Ekanayake scored a try each for the CR and FC in the first half before Raveen de Silva scored their only try in the second half.

Thenuka Nanayakkara converted the first two tries while Seneviratne added the extra points to the third try.

Meanwhile, Heshan Thilakaratne scored the solitary try for Police SC and the extra points were added by Yohan Peiris, who also fired across three penalties while Prince Chamara put over the drop goal.

CH and FC v Army SC

Army SC came from behind with a magnificent performance to hold the CH and FC to a 31-31 draw in their SLR Nippon Paint Inter-Club League Rugby Tournament match played at the Racecourse Grounds in Colombo yesterday.

Army SC, who were trailing 14-17 at half time went on to collect their points from four goals and one penalty while CH and FC responded with four goals and one drop goal.
