The two Mahanayakas of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters said that incidents of bringing drugs to Sri Lanka through sea routes are regularly reported and it is important to pay special attention to this and carry out joint raids with the three armed forces and the police.

The two Mahanayaka Theras spoke to Air Force Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa about this yesterday when he went to the Malwathu and Asgiri Maha Viharas to receive their blessings.

They said that drug traffickers often use the sea route to bring drugs into the country and therefore it is extremely important to block those routes.

Speaking on the occasion, Air Marshal Rajapaksa said that the Air Force is constantly carrying out surveillance activities from the air and provides the necessary information to the Navy for raids.

Rajapaksa said that the Air Force had contributed to the preparation of the floor of the historical Magul Maduwa in Sri Dalada Maligawa premises in Kandy and that some parts of the roof had been broken, so they could provide assistance to restore it.

The Mahanayaka of the Asgiri Chapter Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thera said that while the Department of Archaeology is not working to preserve buildings of archaeological value, they are not giving the opportunity to those who are working for it and because of this many valuable buildings have been damaged.

He also said that the Archaeology Department will intervene in carrying out the restoration work as the Magul Maduwa has not yet been officially handed over to the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
