A man had reportedly assaulted and injured an eleven-year-old child who had patted him on the back and inquired whether he was the Segawunu Amuththa (hidden guest) at a New Year games festival held at the Ediriweera Sarachchandra Vidyalaya ground in Mulleriyawa.
After being produced in courts, Colombo Additional Magistrate Tharanga Mahawatte yesterday (2) ordered him to be released on a surety bail of Rs.500,000.
The child had reportedly patted the suspect on the back and had politely inquired from him whether he was the hidden guest in an attempt to win the contest to find the hidden guest in the New Year games festival.
A tense situation had arisen after the child informed the matter to his parents.Subsequently he was arrested by the police. The Mulleriyawa police had filed charges against the suspect under section 314 of the Penal Code.
