A 15-year-old female student has been admitted to the Kegalle General Hospital on Monday after she was allegedly slapped by the Principal of her school who is a monk and a teacher for coming to school wearing denim pants and a t-shirt as she did not have a new frock as ordered by teachers to wear for an event at the school to coincide with the World Children’s Day.
The student resides at home with her parents, elder brother and younger brother and this student is studying in the 11th grade in a local school and her younger brother is also studying in the same school, Police said.
Police said that on October 1, which was the World Children’s Day, an event was organized by the Principal and the teaching staff to mark the day at the School and the teaching staff had asked the female students to wear colour frocks.
The concerned student it is said had come to School in denim pants and a t-shirt as she did not have a suitable frock. It is said that she had been berated by the Principal and the teacher in front of other children despite her explaining her predicament. After this incident she had refused to go to school and the mother had reported the matter to education authorities in the area who had advised her to ask her child to settle the matter amicably at school.
However, when she had gone to school the next day it is alleged that the Principal and the concerned teacher had slapped her. Her parents had admitted their child to the hospital after she complained about a pain in her ear.
