Children below 12 offered free visits to all zoos
On World Children’s Day (October 01), the National Zoological Department stated that children below 12 years of age will have the opportunity to visit all zoos, including Dehiwela National Zoo, free of charge.
Also, in conjunction with World Children’s Day, the Department of National Zoology has made arrangements to hold an Education and Trade Exhibition from today (29) until October 1, at the Pinnawala Open-Air Zoo and Elephant Orphanage.
National Zoological Department Director General Dr. Tilak Premakantha said that 20 government institutions and many private sector entrepreneurs will come together to impart knowledge to the children and adults who will visit this exhibition which will be held from 8.30 am to 6.00 pm on these three days, keeping in mind the theme ‘Children are worth more than anything’.
Encouraging children regarding animal welfare and animal conservation, and informing them about it will be done, during these three days and they will have the opportunity to see and identify types of animals and study their activities.
Also, on October 01, many programmes will be held for children at the Dehiwela National Zoo, including art competitions and awareness programmes conducted by young zoologists. On the last day, the public will get an opportunity to see the lion cub Simba.
