Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that the children leave the teachers who are constantly sick and look for other sources of knowledge.

It is said that it is a tragedy that the teachers are engaged in professional actions while sticking to the same slogan and taking sick leave.

Minister Premajayantha said that the current generation of students are accessing other sources of knowledge such as the internet and thereby fulfilling their educational needs.

The Minister said this while participating in the prize giving ceremony of the all-Ceylon school waste management school poster art competition held at Gothami Girls’ College, Colombo, sponsored by Nestlé Lanka Company.

The Minister also said that the society cannot move forward without real understanding of the new trends of the rapidly changing knowledge society and teachers and elders should understand this.

The Minister mentioned that if all the schools are digitised and connected to the same network, all subject lessons can be taught to the children from one place. He also emphasised that teachers should be active in order to acquire the skills of imparting new knowledge to the students by finding and updating the knowledge.

Minister Premajayantha said that we should understand the updating of knowledge and be prepared to change for the sake of the children’s future. He said that trying to change the environment or the world without changing oneself according to the changing world and education systems is a fruitless act. The Minister emphasised here that it is not possible to proceed for more than a few more years by taking inappropriate measures without understanding.
