China grants funds for 900 smart classrooms
The People’s Republic of China has provided a financial grant to upgrade the digital education infrastructure of 900 smart classrooms in 500 schools, initiating a massive change in the education sector in Sri Lanka.
The signing of the agreement required for this financial grant was done between Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena and Vice President of the International Development Agency of the People’s Republic of China Yang Weiqun in Beijing,China.
The Finance Ministry Secretary said that this financial grant can be called the beginning of providing a big boost to the programme of digitizing the education sector in Sri Lanka. The funds will be used to develop state-of-the-art educational infrastructure including a modern educational data center, multi-media distance learning and conference facilities. The Sri Lankan government has introduced a number of reforms in the education sector. Under that, digitization of education has become a leading task. The Finance Secretary said the support received from the People’s Republic of China is highly appreciated and accepted.
