Ambition Health Care Beijing, China, a manufacturer of health care equipment and into advanced medical technology systems will invest USD. 25 million in Sri Lanka to set up a unique cancer detection center. This would be the first time such a center is being set up in the South Asian region.

“After six months’ operation we hope to set up a manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka investing around USD 100 million,” said Chairman, Ambition Health Care Beijing, Dr. Fred Sun in an EXCLUSIVE interview with ‘Daily News Business’ yesterday.

He said that the proposed cancer detection center will create medical history in Sri Lanka as it would be able to give out a ‘cancer detection test report’ in just under 12 minutes (as against the usual 12 hours) diagnosing almost all forms of cancer in the body and also less than half of the current price tag. “This would be done through a simple blood test and will have an accuracy of 97%.”

Sun said that Ambition Health Care’s special testing unit can test 96 samples in one circle and give out a test report, print out/whats up and email in less than 12 minutes. This unique compact and portable new system is very easy to use and only requires one-step operation in sample blood testing and hence we hope to have several mobile units all over Sri Lanka. “We are currently deploying this system in Morocco in partnership with several private health care companies and Sri Lanka would be the second country to use this technology. The system software can be readily connected with hospital HIS and LIS to transfer testing reports. The new diagnostic technology has great potential contributing in improving healthcare quality and affordability in Sri Lanka,” said Executive Vice President, Ambition Health Care Beijing Andrea Gu.

Chairman, Ambition Health Care Beijing, Dr. Fred Sun outlining their second investment said they hope to set up a manufacturing plant in the Hambantota Pharmaceutical Zone. “We are also looking at manufacturing some of our other medical devices in Sri Lanka and would be exporting 80% of the production to the region and African countries as well.”

There would be over 50% value addition for this manufacturing process and the project would generate around 150 new employment.

“We came to Sri Lanka three years ago as a part of the Chinese business delegation and recently had talks with the Board of Investment (BOI) as well.”
