Chinathana and Nadishani win two bronze medals
Sri Lanka ‘s weight lifters Chinthana Geethal Vidanage and Nadishani Rajapaksa won bronze medals at the Commonwealth Weight lifting championships which is now in progress in Uzbekistan. With these two bronze Sri Lankan already won six medals (one gold and five bronze) in this tournament.
Vidanage the most experienced weight lifter of the Sri Lanka team competed at 81kg category lifted 134kg from snatch method while 166kg from clean and jerk method to complete 300kg ensured his bronze this time. Vidanage the 39 year old veteran earlier won gold medal at 62kg class in 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and bagged silver medal from 69 kg class in 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
Meanwhile Nadishani Rajapaksa also won the bronze medal at this Commonwealth Championships at 61kg category. Nadeeshani was able to lift 165 kg (74kg from snatch, 91kg from clean and jerk) to win the bronze. (D.R)
