‘Choon paan’ driver held for false story of robbery
Mulleriyawa Police said that they arrested a choon paan driver who made a false complaint about a robbery.
The suspect complained to the Mulleriyawa Police that two persons had attacked and robbed him of Rs. 25,000. However, Police investigations revealed that such an incident did not took place.
The Police said that the suspect had made a complaint that the son of the owner of a bakery in Talahena where he worked earlier and another person came and robbed him because he owed Rs. 20,000 to the bakery.
Later, when the suspect was called to the Police and interrogated, he said that he had been in Nawagamuwa that whole day and that was confirmed from a phone analysis report.
The Police said that during the lengthy questioning of the suspect, he admitted that he had made the false complaint after going to a horse racing centre in Nawagamuwa and losing money after betting.
The suspect is a 35-year-old resident of Badulla. He is to be produced in Court.
