Christmas Day Amnesty

Under a Special Presidential Amnesty, 1,004 prisoners were released yesterday. According to the powers vested with the President under Article 34 of the Constitution, this special State Amnesty is granted to prisoners to coincide with Christmas. Here, Justice, Prisons Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe PC greets inmates as they leave the Welikada Prison.
