The Colombo High Court was yesterday served indictments to three accused including former Sri Lanka Port Authority Chairman Priyath Bandu Wickrama Munige for allegedly causing Rs.65 million unlawful loss to the government by releasing 319 Sri Lanka Port Authority employees from duties and allowing them them to engage in political activities for the Presidential election in 2015. Following indictments, each accused were ordered to be release on two sureties of Rs.7.5 million each.
The case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Adithya Patabendige.
The case will be taken up again on December 8 for pre-trial-conference.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had filed case against former Sri Lanka Port Authority Chairman Priyath Bandu Wickrama, its former Operating Equipments Operator Rathnagoda Baranaduge Sanjaya Kumara and its Managing Director Nihal Keppetipola for allegedly causing an unlawful loss to the government by excluding 319 employees of Sri Lanka Ports Authority from their duties and engaging them in political activities for the Presidential election in 2015 and paying them Rs.65 million as salaries and overtime allowances.
The Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed this corruption case under 10 counts against the three accused under Section 70 of the Bribery Act. The CIABOC had named 90 prosecution witnesses and 17 items as the production over the case.
