CID gets Court sanction to record Zaharan’s wife’s statement

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) will question Abdul Qadir Fathima Hidayah, the wife of deceased Zaharan Hashim, now remanded in connection with Easter Sunday attacks of 2019.

She will be questioned at the Welikada Prison based on a request made by the CID to the Kuliyapitiya Court that a statement from her needs to be recorded regarding the series of attacks on Easter Sunday.

Permission was granted for the request and Court issued an order to the Welikada Prison Superintendent to provide required facilities to the CID to obtain a statement. This was in response to a request made from the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate Janani Shashikala Wijetunga.

A senior CID official said that this statement is being obtained in order to confirm facts that have been revealed so far regarding the persons who carried out the series of attacks and those who were in charge and about persons who had associated her husband Zaharan Hashim and the brain behind the attacks.

The CID has received permission to visit the Welikada Prison within from February 14 till 25 to record a statement.

Mohammed Zaharan’s wife has provided statements to the CID on several occasions and she was questioned while being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and was subsequently remanded.
