CID probes disappearance of artifacts at Peradeniya University

A special Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team visited the Peradeniya University yesterday (03) and started an investigation regarding the disappearance of a number of valuable artifacts from the Museum belonging to the Archaeology Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Peradeniya.

This investigation has been initiated on the basis of the complaints received that some ivory ornaments and many other items of archaeological value are missing.

It is learned that the Archaeological Museum, which was started during the time of Prof. Senarath Paranavithana, also has the items found in the excavations.It is reported that valuable items in the museum have gone missing from time to time due to the fact that the documentation containing the information of the items in the museum has not been properly updated.
