CID prohibits sale of drug trafficker’s car

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has issued prohibition orders under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act on a vehicle seized by the police for transporting a consignment of drugs worth Rs.1110 million in Matara Weligama. STF personnel at Gonahena camp in a raid found a stock of 111 kilos of drugs.

After the raid, 13 people involved in the drug trafficking were arrested during investigations carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau.

A person residing in Angoda Kotikawatta transporting the stock of heroin was arrested and it was revealed that the person had bought this vehicle with the money earned from drug trafficking. A police officer said that the lengthy investigation revealed that the car was purchased by the drug trafficker at a car sale in Colombo 6,on July 27 2020, for Rs.3,996,000 in name of another person resident at Thalgahawatte in Angoda.
