CID summons Manju Nissanka for probe into his dealings

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department has commenced a probe regarding  Global Sri Lanka Congress leader Manju Nissanka. This investigation is due to the diverse complaints the Criminal Investigation Department has received regarding him, police said.

Nissanka was summoned before the Illegal Assets Investigation Division on Wednesday (7) to record a statement but he did not appear claiming he had not received the message. Accordingly, he has been given a date next week to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department.

Information from the Criminal Investigation Department stated that this investigation will especially focus attention on the allegations regarding a transaction that allegedly took place after the fire of the X-press Pearl ship.

Complaints have been submitted by various parties to the Criminal Investigation Department that he had provided funds to the protesters in Galle Face last year. By that time he had stayed in a hotel near Galle Face. The relevant senior official also said that special attention will be focused on how he got the money to spend in that way, Manju Nissanka’s assets as well as his sources of income
