CID to probe Kelaniya University’s fake Google form survey

The Computer Crime Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department informed Colombo Additional Magistrate T. N. L. Ilangasinghe yesterday (16) that an investigation

has been started regarding a case of obtaining personal sexual information of women by releasing a fake document in the name of a lecturer at the Kelaniya University to the phones of university students.

The lecturer submitted this complaint to the Criminal Investigation Department after his wife asked the lecturer about a form received on her phone.

The Computer Crime Division stated before the Court that a comprehensive investigation has been started in relation to this incident of preparing a Google form to obtain extremely personal sexual information using fake documents under the guise of obtaining information about women’s sexual behaviour and attitudes.

The Criminal Investigation Department, which is conducting further investigations into this incident, requested the Court to issue a court order asking Google to provide a report to CID regarding the data related to the incident.

After considering the relevant matters, the Magistrate issued court orders and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to report the progress of the investigation to court.
