0 119

Officers of the Criminal Investigation Department’s Katunayake Airport Unit yesterday uncovered a massive fraud in which a fake sticker is affixed in the passport of some people going for foreign jobs,   similar to the one stamped by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment on the passports of those going for employment abroad after getting duly registered with the Bureau.

This racket was revealed during the interrogation of five women who came to the airport on Sunday night (12) to travel to the Middle East for work with passports affixed with this fake sticker.

The Criminal Investigation Department stated that the women aged 46, 32, 27 and 26 respectively are residents of Ratthota, Kalawana, Vavuniya and Galgamuwa.

According to the Criminal Investigation Department, the five women were arrested for attempting to travel abroad by entering fake stamps (stickers) in their passports similar to the one issued by Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment. Investigations have revealed that the agencies that referred these five women for foreign employment also had obtained money from them on the pretense of registering them with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment. The CID is conducting further investigations to arrest those behind the racket.
