Clash at Kandakadu again: 90 inmates flee, 24 injured

Welikanda Police yesterday said that about 90 inmates of Welikanda Kandakadu Rehabilitation Centre have fled the centre following a clash between two groups of inmates yesterday evening Police said that 24 inmates of the Centre had also been injured following the incident and they have been admitted to Polonnaruwa and Welikanda hospitals.

Polonnaruwa SSP Nisthantha De Silva said that an argument between the two group had led to the clash using clubs and poles. A special operation began yesterday evening with the support of Sri Lanka Army to find the inmates who fled the center.The SSP said 62 inmates were taken into custody by yesterday night . He said that over 478 drug addicts are being rehabilitated at this centre.
