Clash between two groups of fishermen, six injured, three arrested
The Trincomalee Police yesterday arrested three suspects who were involved in the conflict between two groups of fishermen in Padikke
and Vijithapura villages in Trincomalee Police Division over a fishing issue. The Police said that the dispute between the two parties over fishing gear has resulted in fisticuffs at the Thirukkadaiyur Konadi beach on Thursday evening.
Police said that the two parties attacked each other with stones and bottles and they later attacked each other with swords, daggers and sticks.
Seven houses in Vijithapura and four houses in Padikke were damaged due to the dispute. Six persons including two women from these two villages have been admitted to Trincomalee General Hospital following this incident.
Security has been provided to the two villages and a special operation is in progress to recover sharp objects, including swords used by villagers in the clash.
