A meeting to review progress under the Clean Sri Lanka programme’s Clean Colombo initiative was held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning, chaired by Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The meeting reviewed projects and action plans being implemented by several government institutions, focusing on improvements to the sewerage network and drainage canals, environmental beautification and waste management.
The Colombo Municipal Council, Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation, Urban Development Authority, Road Development Authority, Department of Coast Conservation and Coastal Resource Management, and Sri Lanka Railways are the main institutions involved in the initiative. Progress on projects prepared by these institutions was reviewed during the discussion.
The meeting also highlighted the need to bring together initiatives being implemented across the country under the broader Clean Sri Lanka programme that are relevant to Colombo.
The programme aims to promote social well-being, environmental sustainability and ethical renewal by encouraging changes in public behaviour. (Newswire)
