CMSC excel at Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship
In a proud moment for Sri Lanka, the competitors secured the eighth position in its debut appearance at the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia from September 29 to October 1. CMSC team clinched an impressive total of five medals, comprising two silver and three bronze.
The championship, conducted under the auspices of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) World Governing Body for Motorsports and organized by the South Asia Motorsports Wing, saw the participation of 18 leading motorsport nations from around the world.
Sri Lanka’s silver medalists were Sam Smith and Hisham Shamshudeen in the Rally Trial Event, while Maxxis Xtreme Racing Rally duo Akhry Ameer and Shafraz Junaid secured bronze medals in their respective segments in the regularity rally and the fourth place in the control speed stages. A majority of the event was officiated by members of the Ceylon Motorsport Club and PIT PASS was the official coverage partner.
Team CMSC was represented by a talented team of 15 Sri Lankan drivers, including Yevan David, Charya Seneviratne, Sheshan Gunasekara, Reaan Dharmadasa, Tehan Amararisi, Thenuka Liyanarachchi, Avishka Premadasa, Shiyan Arambewatte, Ashanya Premadasa, Sam Smith, Hisham Shamshudeen, Ashvitha Wickrama, Maryse Navaratne, Akhry Ameer, and Shafras Junaid, all competing under the banner of Team CMSC (Ceylon Motor Sports Club).
Malaysia secured the top spot in the medal tally, winning the championship with four gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal, totaling seven medals.
Australia followed closely in second place with three gold medals, four silver medals, and two bronze medals, accumulating a total of nine medals. Indonesia secured the third position with three gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, totaling eight medals. India claimed the fourth position with two medals, one gold and one bronze. South Korea earned fifth place with one gold and one bronze medal, while Kyrgyzstan clinched a gold and bronze medal for the sixth position.
