Co-Amoxiclav removed from state hospitals
The Director of the Medical Supply Division, Dr. Kapila Wickrayamanayake yesterday said that the Health Ministry has decided to remove the vaccine group Co-Amoxiclav, which is given to prevent bacterial infections, from use at state hospitals.
He said that there were 71,000 such vaccines, of which 34,000 have been used and the remaining 37,000 will be removed from use. The Health Ministry has decided to discontinue the use of this vaccine group after a 50-year-old man who was being treated at the National Hospital died due to an allergic reaction after being injected with this vaccine.
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority has the power to conduct tests on these locally produced vaccines.
