Cocaine worth around Rs. 190 Mn found hidden inside volleyball net
Sri Lanka Customs Officers seized 2.5 kg of cocaine worth around Rs. 190 Mn hidden inside the tubes of the edge of a volleyball net on Tuesday (12). The total length of the pipe was about sixty-seven feet.
This cocaine was found in a parcel received by a courier at the Katunayake Air Cargo Terminal which came from Brazil. The parcel was received by a person in Maradana area on August 21, and this parcel was inspected in front of two persons authorized by the owner to clear this parcel.
The two persons were arrested after the cocaine in it subjected to a chemical test. These chemical test kits were given by the Australian Government to the Sri Lankan Customs Department and by them; these drugs have been identified within a few seconds.
But in previous cases, these drugs have to be sent to the Government Analyst to verify the requirements, and it takes a lot of time. The suspects and the seized drugs are to be handed over to the Narcotics Bureau of the Sri Lanka Police for further investigations. Finance State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya visited the DHL Premises at the Katunayake Airport Air Cargo Terminal to observe the contraband.
