The Colombo Bourse declined in May 2024, with the benchmark All Share Price Index (ASPI) declining -2.1% MoM, while the more liquid S&P SL20 index decreased by -3.3% MoM.
Average daily turnover decreased to Rs.1,789 mn in May 2024 (vs. Rs.2,722 million in April 2024) said CT CLSA – Sri Lanka Monthly Report. Top contributors to monthly turnover were John Keells Holdings (JKH), Browns Investments (BIL), and Sampath Bank (SAMP). Market witnessed a net foreign outflow of Rs.168 million in May 2024 (vs. an outflow of Rs.23mn in April 2024). The contribution of foreign activities to market turnover was 9% in May 2024.
During the month, net foreign buying was seen in Ambeon Capital (TAP), Dialog Axiata (DIAL), and Melstacorp (MELS), whilst net foreign selling was seen in John Keells Holdings (JKH), Sampath Bank (SAMP) and PGP Glass Ceylon (GLAS).
The Colombo Consumer Price Index (CCPI – Base year 2013) decreased by 1.1 points to 194.1 index points, whilst point-to-point inflation was recorded at 0.9% in April 2024 (vs.1.5% in April 2024)
