Colombo South emerge champions
Colombo South led by Sri Lanka youth cap Wanuja Sahan Kumara emerged champions of the SLC Under 19 Inter Super Provincial Cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket at Pallekele International Cricket stadium Kandy recently
Colombo South beat Colombo North by nine wickets in the final played at Pallekele International Cricket stadium Kandy SLC conducted an Under 19 Youth League, as part of its move toward building a core group of young players for the next Under 19 World Cup and beyond. The inaugural tournament was participated by five teams namely, Colombo South, Colombo North, Galle, Kandy and Dambulla. The 50 over format tournament with a total of 11 matches were played in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.
Caniston Gunaratnam right arm medium paceman of S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia claimed 5 wickets for 14 runs. Sri Lanka youth cap Dhanal Hemananda left arm medium paceman of St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya claimed 4 wickets for 25 runs for Colombo South.
Sineth Jayawardene and Sadisha Rajapakse, both Royalists, helped to build their innings for Colombo South. Sineth Jayawardene scored unbeaten 40 runs and Sri Lanka youth cap Sadisha Rajapakse scored 37 runs.
Caniston Gunaratnam (Colombo South) was adjudged Man of the final and Wanuja Sahan Kumara (Colombo South) adjudged Best bowler of the tournament. –– Rs. 50000/-) Rishi Adhishtan (Dambulla) of Maliyadeva College Kurunegala adjudged Best batsman of the tournament and Vinuja Ranpul (Colombo North) of Nalanda College Colombo adjudged Player of the tournament.
