Commemorative Stamp, First Day Cover to mark Colombo SLSA’s 110th anniversary
The Sri Lanka Scouts Association (SLSA) Colombo District Branch launched its 110th Anniversary Commemorative Stamp and First Day Cover recently at the Colombo Scouts Headquarters in Colombo.
Scouting, which today is the world’s largest and leading youth movement, was introduced to the youth of Colombo District in 1914 and since then Colombo Scouting has endured to produce active global citizens who are self-fulfilled and play a constructive role in society. Being the premier Scout District in the country, Colombo District today nurtures over 12,000 young talents aging from 5 – 26 years of age, to be change-makers in their own communities and to live up to the Scout Motto ‘Be Prepared’.
The event took place under the patronage of representatives from the Postal Department, including Senior Deputy Postmaster General Rajitha K. Ranasinghe and Philatelic Bureau Director L. G. N. De Silva, as well as Colombo Scouting officials including Colombo District Scouts President – M. C. M Zarook, Executive Committee Chairman – Sarath Chandrasiri Vithana and the District Commissioner – Amil Abeysundara. The Commemorative Stamp and the First Day Cover were designed by Rover Scout Hansith Perera. Assistant Headquarters Commissioner of Sri Lanka Scout Association, Dharshana Ranatunga highlighted the close association of Scouting and Philately over the years in his keynote address.
