Commemorating 75 years of diplomatic relations between Turkiye and Sri Lanka since 1948, a special commemorative stamp was launched under the patronage of Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.

At this commemorative programme held at the Turkish Ambassador’s official residence in Colombo, two stamps with the value of Rs. 25 depicting Sigiriya and Cappadocia, which are considered UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sri Lanka and Turkiye respectively, and a first-day cover were released. These stamps have been designed by Wasantha Perera, a well-known artist and stamp designer of Sri Lanka.

Speaking at the occasion, Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana expressed the following views:

“The long-standing friendship with Turkey dates back 75 years. Currently, the governments of both countries are making a continuous commitment to turn this cooperation into a multi-faceted partnership. Issuing a stamp marking the diplomatic relationship further confirms the strength of the unity and relationship between the two nations. There are many opportunities to further strengthen the bilateral trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. Through this, the political, cultural, social and economic relations between Sri Lanka and Turkiye will be further strengthened in the future.”

At the invitation of the Turkish Ambassador to Sri Lanka R. Demet Sekercioglu, Foreign Minister Ali Sabry, Member of Parliament Rauf Hakeem, diplomatic representatives of many countries including China, India and Vietnam, Postmaster General Ruwan Sathkumara and the representatives of the Department of Posts and a group of guests including Stamp Bureau officials were present.
