Computer theft in school, 17-year-old held

A student of the same school was arrested on suspicion of entering the computer room of MR/Lenama Junior School, Akuressa and stealing two computers and accessories from the school.

The Principal had complained to the Akuressa Police that someone had secretly entered the computer room of Lenama Junior School and stolen two computers and accessories worth about Rs. three lakhs.

On the instructions of Akuressa Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahesh Perera and Akuressa Police OIC Chief Inspector Sudath Sudusinghe, Police officers including Chief Inspector Dharmawardena, OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division, started the investigation. Based on information received, the investigation team had discovered that a 17-year-old student studying in the same school had committed this theft.

Accordingly, during the inspection of the concerned student’s house, two computers and related devices were found hidden in the attic of the house and taken into Police custody. Criminal Investigation Division Sub-Inspectors Priyantha Jayalath, Lalith Nupehewa, Police Sergeant Sugathadasa, Nayanajith and Police Woman Sergeant Madhushani conducted investigations and arrested the suspected student.

The suspect student will be remanded until the 31st after being produced to the Morawaka District Court.
