The government has decided to grant the necessary course fees as a soft loan through Samurdhi Bank associations to the youths who are employed in part-time or full-time jobs while studying in South Korea, Social Empowerment State Minister Anupa Pasqual said.
Government and private sector institutions have jointly started a new programme that allows students to work while following vocational training courses or graduate courses in South Korea, regardless of whether or not these youths have passed the GCE Advanced Level Examination.
State Minister Pasqual said that the government decided to offer concessional bank loans with the aim of encouraging the youths, since this programme gives great benefits to the young generation of this country as well as to the country as a whole.
He added that Sri Lanka should create a workforce with a high level of qualifications to be able to get high-salary job opportunities available in the world.
The State Minister expressed these views while launching a Korean language learning course for youths who wish to be employed while studying in Korea, at the ancient Kande Viharaya in Kalutara, recently. At the initial stage this course aims at the students who dropout from Ordinary Level or Advanced Level Examinations in the Western Province.
“It is possible to create high-income job opportunities through the provision of professional education. Therefore, Troja International Management and Consultants, Royal Way International Vocational College and Seiko International Institute, affiliated to Troja International Management Agency, have jointly introduced this course with the guidance and assistance of the government,” he added.
Director of the Korean Language Educational Institute Ravindra Gayanath said that the idea of introducing new language courses is to direct the children of this country for well-paid job opportunities in Korea while giving them Korean language proficiency.
The President of the Korea–Sri Lanka Buddhist Centre and Chief Incumbent of Chendonsa Temple Ven. Kim Yong Chul, Korean educationists Hwang Yongguk, Pak Eunhee, Kho Mink Yong, Incumbent of Kande Viharaya Ven. Premarathana Thera and a large number of people participated in the introduction of these courses.
