The Ilawali Police has launched an investigation regarding a constable attached to Jaffna Police who allegedly demanded Rs. 80,000 bribe from the relatives of a suspect to release him.
The suspect had been arrested along with heroin.
A senior police officer said that the constable had allegedly demanded the bribe to release the suspect – a resident of Vadukkottai, Jaffna.
The suspect was arrested on November 11.
Rs. 40,000 had been deposited by the suspect’s relatives in a bank account given by the constable.
The suspect had taken Rs. 20,000 later as well.
A relative of the suspect had complained about the bribe on Saturday (12).
