Continued treatment for Agbo
The treatment of Tusker Agbo, who was seriously injured due to the firing of a trap gun placed by a hunter on its front left leg, which commenced on June 12, is still been carried out by the team including Wildlife Veterinarian in charge of Anuradhapura Region Chandana Jayasinghe, and in several instances special veterinarian groups also have supported the treatment efforts.
Accordingly, a group of wildlife veterinarians led by the Wildlife Department’s Director Dr.Tharaka Prasad and a group of lecturers from the Peradeniya University’s Veterinary Medicine Faculty were present yesterday (17) to review the health condition of Agbo.
This medical team worked to treat the elephant after an operation of nearly five hours and after putting Agbo to sleep, X-ray and scan tests were done on the injured leg of the elephant.
For this, the officers and staff of the Thirappane Wildlife Office also provided full support.
