Contraband from Tuticorin to Sri Lanka taken into custody

The Ramanathanpuram Police had taken into custody a stock of shark fins, dried sea urchins, marine plants and cardamom worth around Indian Rupees 7 million which were being transported to be packed into a boat to be sent to Sri Lanka from Thooththukudi (former Tuticorin) in India.

During a money transaction in connection with this racket, an Indian national had tipped off the Ramanathanpuram Police. As a result, 450 Kgs of Shark fins worth Indian Rupees 900,000, 1,250 kgs of Cardamom valued at Indian Rupees 2.5 million and 955 Kgs of marine plants worth Indian Rupees 3.7 million together with three Sri Lankan suspects had been taken into the custody of the Police.

The Ramanathanpuram Police of India has also taken into their custody a vehicle which had transported these items. Steps have been taken to produce before the Ramanathanpuram Court the three suspects together with the stock of illegal goods.
