Coordinating conference on disaster mitigation held at Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat
A coordinating conference was held at the Kaduwela Divisional Secretariat on June 04, 2024 to address the problems faced by individuals displaced due to the recent flooding caused by adverse weather in the area.
Army Commander Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage joined a panel that included Members of Parliament; (Dr.) Major Pradeep Undugoda, Premnath C. Dolawatte, Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the President Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra, and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera participated.
06Officials engaged in discussions on critical issues affecting the area including providing food for the displaced, restoration of communication and electricity and coordinating relief efforts with the military in case of emergencies. The Commander of the Army emphasised the Army’s unwavering commitment to supporting the government’s disaster relief initiatives.
Following the conference, the attendees visited the locations where displaced individuals were temporarily housed, including Munidasa Kumarathunga Vidyalaya, which sheltered 53 families (235 people) and Ashokaramaya Temple in Bomiriya, where 60 families (310 people) had sought refuge.
The conference was also attended by General Officer Commanding of 14th Infantry Division, Senior Officers of the Army, Navy and Air Force, Police officials and government representatives.
