Cop in hot water over restaurant fiasco

A Police Constable attached to the Kaduwela Police who pretended to be an officer of the Intelligence Division of the Kandy DIG had gone to a restaurant in Kandenuwara with a friend and intimidated the owner demanding for free alcohol were taken into custody by the Kandenuwara Police on Sunday. 

This Constable had gone to the restaurant with his friend and first introduced himself as being from the Criminal Investigation Department.

After the restaurant employees informed the owner of the hotel about the situation, he had come there to inquire about the matter and the Constable had said that they were officers of the Intelligence Division of the Kandy Deputy Inspector General of Police. The officer had then told the restaurant owner that the DIG had received four petitions against the restaurant.

The PC and his had scared the hotel owner by stating that they had come to find out more details regarding the alleged petitions.After the restaurant owner, who had felt suspicious of this officer’s behaviour informed the Kandenuwara Police station about the incident, a team of Police officers had come there and conducted further inquiries, it had been revealed that they were not members of the Intelligence Unit of the Kandy DIG.

Investigations have revealed that these two persons, who are residents of Kandenuwara have come to the restaurant to drink for free after driving a sense of fear into the owner.

According to investigations, the Police officer who was arrested had come to the restaurant with his friend while on leave.
