Cop who arrested ‘Karandeniye Sudda’ and ‘Podi Lassie’ shot dead

A former Police Inspector Balendrasiha, who was involved in arresting two powerful underworld criminals in the south, ‘Karandeniye Sudda’ and ‘Podi Lassie’, was shot dead with a T-56 firearm in front of his house in Rathgama last night (09).

When the incident happened the Police Inspector was not serving as he had been suspended.

His brother was also injured in the shooting and was admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.

It has been revealed in the investigation that he was shot while he was having a conversation with his brother. He had stopped at his brother’s house which is close by to his own house, while returning home on a motorcycle.

The Police information disclosed that there has been an allegation of assault against this Police officer and that he had been suspended on the charge of threatening a witness who was to testify against him.

He had been remanded for the offence and was recently released on bail.
