COPE nod for Appropriation Bill 2024
The Committee on Public Finance (COPE) has approved the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2024.
This approval was given after a long discussion held on the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2024 by the COPE which met yesterday under the Chairmanship of MP Dr. Harsha De Silva.
Accordingly, the recurrent and capital expenditure for the year 2024 was analyzed comparatively compared to the previous years and the Committee informed the authorities to submit further information related to certain matters to the committee before November 13.
The Chairman of the Committee also pointed out that it is a problem that a large number of annual Budget proposals are limited to proposals and there should be a follow up. Thus, the Chairman pointed out that although Budget proposals are presented by every government in history, only a small amount is actually implemented. Since this is a bad precedent, the need to follow up the Budget was emphasized to avoid this situation. Thus, it was also discussed that this follow-up should be done in relation to the upcoming Budget by the Finance Committee of the Government.
