Following the instructions given by the Attorney General to arrest the chief custodian of the Kataragama Devalaya and the custodian in charge of the Devalaya storeroom, over a 38-pound gold plate offering that had gone missing, a team from Colombo Crime Division had departed to Kataragama yesterday to arrest the two, Police sources said.
The offering had been made by the wife of former underworld leader ‘Angoda Lokka’. Angoda Lokka later died in India.
A complaint in this regard had been lodged in October 2021 by the Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Kataragama Devalaya, Dishan Wickramaratne.
The Basnayaka Nilame had come to know about this gold plate offered to the devalaya going missing from the devalaya storage through an anonymous phone call. Accordingly, after confirming that the gold plate was missing, he had questioned the above mentioned people.
They had told that the same people who offered it had taken it back.
The Police had later come to know through investigations that this was not true.
