Cops turn robbers in Kottawa, four arrested
Kottawa Police arrested four constables attached to the Malabe Police in connection with the theft of a gold chain and an Apple mobile phone from a man at Kottawa Vidyalaya Junction. Police say that among the suspected police officers are a police Sergeant and three constables.
Police recovered the three-wheeler used in the robbery and the stolen gold chain and mobile phone.
Police said that on August 20 the victim residing in Weerakatiya, Walasmulla had come to his sister’s house in Kottawa Vidyala junction and while standing in the road in front of his sister’s house the four suspects who had come in a three-wheeler had approached the young man and robbed him of his gold chain and mobile phone and fled.
Meanwhile the arrested police officers under interrogation have said that they were on a raid in civvies and had tried to question the young man who had behaved in a suspicious manner.
They said however the man had struggled with the officers and during this fracas his gold chain had broken and also he had run away without his mobile phone.
Meanwhile the officers have been interdicted pending an inquiry and also they are to be produced in courts. Police found that the three-wheeler that the suspects came belonged to a constable attached to the Malabe Police.
The arrested suspects were produced before the Homagama Court.
